October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Throughout the month of October, T&M will offer a series of cyber security tips, tricks, and best practices in recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Why you should care.

In September alone, Equifax, Deloitte, and the Securities and Exchange Commission all announced they were the victim of a cyber-attack. In reality, there are probably hundreds or even thousands of organizations that have suffered a cyber-attack during the month. Unfortunately, most still do not know they have been attacked; as a result, some will actually go out of business. The truth is that many of these cyber-attacks could have been prevented if the stricken organization had done one simple thing: educated its staff on cyber security best practices.

The Human Firewall.

While your organization may already use sophisticated network firewalls and intrusion detection systems, most modern-day cyber-attacks begin by social engineering targeted at individual employees. Cyber security awareness and education can mean the difference between a close call and a total disaster. In today’s cyber world, the weakest link is the human firewall.

Please join us throughout the month of October as T&M’s Technology Risk professionals share a wealth of cyber security best practices that could play a critical role in protecting your organization from a cyber-attack. We will also provide key recommendations to protect your personal data including online accounts, social media, and even your online activity with friends and family. Stay tuned.
